John Rubenstrunk

John M. Rubenstrunk, D.D.S, M.S.

Patients and parents love Dr. John Rubenstrunk because he creates a relaxed, comfortable environment. So don’t be surprised if he offers you a cookie, a muffin, or a cupcake next time you’re in the office. Grateful patients and parents who know his weakness for baked good often bring him a treat. But he’s always willing to share, so if he offers you something, go ahead and enjoy it. He wants you to feel welcome.

For Dr. John, making your child feel welcome starts with the walk back from the waiting room. While he realized in dental school that this was a great time to gauge your child’s attitude toward dentistry, he’s always known that the best way to make your child comfortable is to just talk to them. As he explains each step of an exam or treatment, he mixes in questions to get to know your child. Kids love this one-on-one attention and they quickly realize Dr. John is on their side.

Dr. John’s staff thinks his easy manner with kids is due to the fact that he’s basically a big kid himself. And that’s probably true. It explains why Dr. John found his pediatric rotation during dental school to be the “least stressful and the most comfortable.”

Now, as a part-time clinical instructor for pediatric dental students, Dr. John emphasizes treating the child as well as their teeth. He emphasizes paying attention during the walk back from the waiting room, sharing stories with the kids, and talking about things unrelated to dentistry. He teaches his students, “If you just talk to them, they’ll be ok.”

Dr. John and his wife, Cindy, have three children – Ian, Lauren, and Brian – and they enjoy many of the opportunities that living in Colorado affords. Depending on the season, Dr. John can be found on his motorcycle, fly fishing, golfing, skiing, snowmobiling, or mountain biking. See – he is just a big kid.

"My kids actually look forward to their appointments. I know they feel this way because everyone is so friendly and patient with them."
